Bedford Kills Baby Animals, Proves He Has No Soul.
On Thursday, Replacement Republic Airways Holdings announced a plan to shutter Lynx Aviation, a subsidiary of its relatively recent Frontier Airlines acquisition. The drawdown is expected to begin April 6, 2010, and be complete by September. Initially, Lynx will shave 175 jobs, with more undoubtedly to follow. Service will be cut on FAR-DEN and TUL-DEN routes. Other cities on the Lynx routemap will be covered by other Republic units utilizing Embraer jets of various sizes.
According to Lynx Spokesperson Carlo Bertolini told the USA Today (my favorite hotel-provided journalism outlet) that the decision stems mostly from Lynx’s small fleet size and an effort to simplify fleets as RAH tries to merge the operations of four airlines and five to six operating certificates. Lynx’s eleven aircraft will be phased out starting with three on April 6 and another three less than two weeks later.
According to official RAH press releases, most Lynx staff will be offered positions within other units of the RAH megaplex, though the fair integration of those employees remains a subject of intense forum discussion. According to one particularly interesting post over at APC, the Lynx employee FAQ says that Lynx crews will be able to obtain employment in other RAH units after “the pilot and flight attendant seniority lists for all Republic companies are integrated, as required by statute.” Does this means that, if seniority integration is not completed by the end of Lynx operations, Lynx crews will be left out in the cold? If so, let’s hope the Pilot groups can come closer to seeing eye-to-eye than the publicly feuding AFA and Teamsters groups representing the flight attendants with skin in the game.
